We were fortunate to have a few celebrities come and show their support of the troops. This is me with Brian Dennehy when he came to Tallil to do a publicity bender (tour). What a nice man. He was more interested that I was from
New England than me having a degree in theatre!!! He was great. You remember him from Tommy Boy and Silverado.
Jingle Bells! saddam hussein smells!! Well the bad news is that I was in Iraq for Christmas-I did however end up
at home for Thanksgiving, though so I wasn't too upset. Plus I got to go home for early January so we got some great
after Christmas deals!!!
This handy little device is called a "Zeus" It's a Chinese anti-aircraft gun. It was confiscated by the MP's
and brought to my guys who handled captured stuff. It was cool to sit on and play. Notice the green uniform.
That day was the only day I wore it-the rest of the time I was in the desert uniforms.
Tyrants are narcisistic by nature so these images of saddam
were all over the place. Within a few weeks after this picture was taken that picture of him was taken down
Iraqi weather is a very strange thing. In the early summer, right before a sand storm, the dust will
literally hang in the air-that's why the sky is orange. It's freaky! I took these pictures around mid afternoon.
Notice the clothesline on the side. We brought a washing machine (thanks to the Aggressive Sergeant Gregory, RET) and
dried our clothes on the line. Funny-it never seemed to take long to dry!
I am not sure why I had this picture taken-this is me with a Ukranian soldier in Kuwait. I didn't get his name
or ever saw him again-we did trade patches so there was definately a lot a of good will. Nice guys though.
I took this picture shortly before crossing the Iraq-Kuwait border on March 23, 2004-the day I left Iraq to come
home. These kids loved to wave and watch the US soldiers. Notice the one in the middle is barefoot-it was in the
90's and rising.
Okay Gang, Quiz time-What you see here is a Deuce and a half truck with 2 fuel pods on it. Why would I take a picture
of this truck? This truck sat next to my office for 4 months. Scroll down for the answer.
Okay-here's the back of the truck. Figured it out yet? Note the bumper numbers.
Well how about now? For those of you who remember Jessica Lynch and ordeal she went through, that incident happened
about 5 miles from where I was stationed. When it happened, I was in New Jersey on active duty, preparing to go over
to Iraq. The members of my unit were riveted to the tv for this reason: the unit Jessica Lynch belonged
to was the 507th Maintenance Company-a unit identical to our subordiate unit, the 110th Maintenance Company that ended up
with us at Tallil. They were actualy deployed before we were!
